Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps
When it comes to drum and bugle performances one name continues to stand out: The Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps.
The Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps is world class musical troop from Canton, Ohio. This popular drum and bugle corps is well known for their thrilling performances and one of a kind musical repertoires.
The Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps was founded in 1972. The name Bluecoats was based from the Canton Police Boy's Club. The members particularly choose this name in honor of the retired police officers of the said club.
This group was originally created as a simple music program from the Boy's Club. However, by 1974 the group decided to debut in drum corps competition. Only after two years of competing, the Bluecoats already earned national recognition as they continued to exhibit their talents in a number of contests both in and out the United States.
By 1976, the Bluecoats won the Ohio VFW State Championships. This winning streak went on until 1984. The group also garnered other awards such as the 1981 US Open Class “A” Champion, 1978 American International Open Class “A” Champion, and the Great Lakes Drum Corps Association Champion from 1987 to 1985.
One of the traditions during a Bluecoat performance is the shooting of a distinctive “Bloooooo”. Fans greet the band by cheering “Bloooooo” prior to a show. The statement: “The crowd is not booing; they're BLOOING” is often used to explain this tradition to new or confused spectators.
